Not sure about 2008 but in 2007 d3dx9_27.dll and d3d9.dll files were not a part of standard directx9 installation package. AutoCAd installation setup installs it.

If you make a deployment and use GPo to install AutoCAD these files were missing. My solution was to make a.msi file that includes these files and deploy it with GPO. I think the case is similar with 2008. My opinion is that Autodesk installation deployment is missing an important part.

While it worked well for me, they are getting errors when they run it that says they are missing the d3dx9_30.dll file. I have manually copied the fill to their system32 folder and it works, but I don't have a clue on why this file gets missed. The users all have administration capability on their own PCs.
